The London Stock Exchange has appointed a new chief information officer.

Antoine Shagoury joins from the American Stock Exchange, now part of NYSE Euronext, where he was CIO since 2004. Prior to this, Shagoury was chief technology officer at global financial services firm Instinet Services. Reporting to the LSE's CEO Xavier Rolet, Shagoury will be responsible for technology throughout the company and the IT organisation of the group. He will also work with Tony Weeresinghe, CEO of MillenniumIT trading platform by 2010. It replaces the outgoing TradElect platform, based on Microsoft .Net architecture. Meanwhile, David Lester, the LSE's director of information services, will manage the merger of Turquoise and Baikal. In December, the LSE took a 60 percent stake in Turquoise, which houses a 'dark pool' trading platform centred on trading large blocks of shares. Baikal is the LSE's equivalent business.
